They skipped a wedding reception to save money, but still went over budget by $2,000. Is having a 'cheap' wedding actually possible?

A Canadian couple went over budget by $2,000 despite eliminating the wedding reception to save money. Navneet Choudrey and her husband chose to allocate their budget towards buying a home in the Greater Toronto Area. Choudrey notes that skipping the reception allowed them to save close to $25,000, but they still incurred unexpected costs, including hiring vendors. A survey by Abacus Data found that 1 in 3 homebuyers received financial help from family to purchase their first home.
