A new Connecticut law requires a 48-hour waiting period before a marriage license can be issued. Starting October 1, 2026, both applicants must appear in person to complete the application, which will then be held by the Town Clerk’s office for at least 48 hours. After the waiting period, the couple can pick up their license. The law does not allow a waiver of the 48-hour waiting period.
