A 48-hour waiting period is now required for marriage licenses in Connecticut, starting October 1, 2026. Couples must appear in person to complete the application, and the Town Clerk’s office must hold the application for at least 48 hours before issuing the license. The waiting period cannot be waived for any reason. Both applicants must be present to initiate the application process.
