Weddings are expensive. How about a grocery store cake?

A growing number of couples are opting for grocery store cakes for their weddings to save costs. According to wedding-planning website Zola, the average wedding cake costs about $36,000, but a slice of cake from a grocery store like Publix or Costco is significantly cheaper, around $1.50. Publix has seen a 50% increase in wedding cake sales in the Birmingham area since 2020. Couples are choosing to spend elsewhere, such as on venues or catering, and skipping the cake tradition altogether is not an option for many.
